How it works
It echoes the ancient Chinese Gun-Yu flood myth (the father who tries to wall out the water fails and is executed; the son succeeds by dredging channels to work with it) and formalizes an energy-independence ladder from Level 0 (total grid dependence) up to Level 3 (truly rebuildable from salvage — DIY wind turbines, micro-hydro, wood-gas engines, iron-nickel batteries, simple homemade inverters), with a key warning that most 'off-grid' setups are really Level 2, still secretly tethered to corporate parts and firmware.
Why it matters
The engine's load-bearing point is that living in a remote spot doesn't equal true independence — the real chain around your neck is the supply line for replacement parts, measured by how long your system runs before it halves with no new manufactured parts.
