How it works
It ran 50-plus departments studying the supposed 'Nordic race,' mounted a 1938-39 Tibet expedition, and its military-research institute carried out lethal experiments at Dachau and the murder of 86 Jewish prisoners for a skeleton collection; its managing director Wolfram Sievers was executed at Nuremberg, his own diary serving as evidence. A related witch-trial card index of tens of thousands of cases actually sat in a separate SS security office, not strictly the Ahnenerbe.
Why it matters
Its occult framing stripped away every moral limit by branding non-Aryans as sub-human material, and its methods later fed U.S. mind-control programs through Operation Paperclip.
