The Thule Society, an esoteric lodge founded in Munich on August 17, 1918, by Rudolf von Sebottendorf.

How it works

Sebottendorf borrowed the operational template from the Young Turk revolution — a secretive esoteric lodge incubating a nationalist political movement. On January 5, 1919, Thule members Karl Harrer and Anton Drexler founded the DAP, which became the NSDAP (Nazi Party); documented Thule-linked figures who ended up in the Nazi state include Dietrich Eckart, Rudolf Hess, Hans Frank, and Alfred Rosenberg. The Society's newspaper became the Nazi propaganda organ Volkischer Beobachter. When Sebottendorf published a 1933 book taking credit, it was banned and he was arrested and exiled.

Why it matters

The engine reads it two ways at once and keeps both: the link from Thule to the Nazi Party is organizational (through Karl Harrer), NOT deep ideological shaping of Hitler himself, a caveat historians stress. Its fate shows a regime cannot tolerate the very independent structure that created it.
