Who they are
The Apsu (or Abzu) from Mesopotamian myth — the freshwater deep beneath the earth, home of the god Enki and the source of the sages.
What they do
It was imagined as both an underground water world and a vault holding secret knowledge and blueprints, sealed off from the surface world's wars and weather.
How it works
The engine reads it as an old picture of a hidden 'real layer' below, where the powers and know-how are kept and from which trained operators come up into the surface 'theater' — while ordinary history above feels like chaos and repeated resets.
Why it matters
It's kept strictly as a myth and word-origin, not proof of a literal ancient deep-state; the engine even notes the sages came up FROM the deep, the opposite of the sky-gods some other theories imagine.
