It lines up different thinkers: Burroughs called language literally a virus living in us; Dawkins and Dennett treated words and ideas as replicators spreading by imitation; Deacon argued language and the human brain evolved together; Jaynes claimed internal language actually created modern consciousness - reading it as (1) a parasite that colonizes us, (2) a helpful partner that gives us civilization, or (3) the substance of thought itself.
Why it matters
The engine leaves the big question open on purpose - whether language uses humanity to spread or simply is us - and applies the same lens to religions, ideologies, and brands as self-spreading thought-forms.
