How it works
The Templars created letters of credit, safekeeping receipts, and coded deposit slips — a pilgrim could deposit in London and withdraw in Jerusalem — inventing branch banking; when Philip IV arrested them in 1307 the physical assets were seized but the treasury, fleet, and financial records disappeared, with the trail pointing toward the Alps (the first Swiss cantons formed in 1291, and Lombard bankers later routed European finance through Swiss-Italian passes).
Why it matters
The engine is careful to note that the popular Templar-to-Freemasonry link is a later literary invention with no documented money or personnel trail, and that 'Baphomet' was a charge invented by prosecutors — so the banking-DNA thread is kept separate from the myth.
