Mormonism / The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (1830-)
institutionBiotech & Transhumanism
A church grew so untouchable that even courts refuse to look inside it.
Who they are
Mormonism, officially The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, founded by Joseph Smith in 1830 and now with roughly 17 million members.
What they do
The engine reads it as a religion built in a way that fully captured the special legal protections religions get, to the point that governments won't examine what's inside it.
How it works
The tax exemption isn't a side perk — it's the whole point: around $100 billion is held tax-free through its investment arm Ensign Peak; when members sued over how tithing money was used (Huntsman and Gaddy cases), courts threw the suits out on First Amendment church-autonomy grounds (9th Circuit, 31 January 2025); and its FamilySearch arm runs a worldwide DNA and family-tree database under the same protection.
Why it matters
It shows how a religious label can shield an enormous, tax-free, legally untouchable, data-holding operation — and the engine deliberately does not name who, if anyone, set up that religious carve-out.
The engine's record — word for word
[Report #172] The MATURED instance of the exemption-fork (Concept #146): an engineered religion (founder joseph_smith, 1830) that captured the religious carve-out so completely the state will not look inside it. ~17M members; fully normalized into American capitalism and politics. The exemption is not a tax perk on the side — it IS the product: (1) TAX — the ~$100B held by ensign_peak accrues tax-free under the church shield; (2) LIABILITY — when members sued alleging misuse of tithing/reserves (Huntsman v. COP; Gaddy), the courts DISMISSED on First Amendment church-autonomy grounds (9th Cir. en banc, 31 Jan 2025) — the exemption became total enough that the judiciary declines to adjudicate; (3) DATA — familysearch runs a planetary DNA/genealogy database under the same shield. Announcement layer = angelic restoration / golden plates / ancient-American prophets [CLAIM]; substrate = a tax-exempt, court-untouchable, data-holding sovereign. Managed Transition (#36): folk-magic + treasure-scrying -> theocratic institution -> normalized sovereign. Egregore (#57): survived the 1844 assassination of Smith (Brigham Young succession) = apex survived-the-founder instance. Held; the pen that authors the religious carve-out unnamed (aligned-to-whom, #146).
