Zoologist Philip Sclater invented 'Lemuria' in 1864 as a hypothetical sunken land bridge to explain lemur fossils, and plate tectonics later killed the theory; occultist Blavatsky then absorbed it as a mystical ancient homeland, and Tamil nationalists rebranded it 'Kumari Kandam' to claim their language predated Sanskrit (though some cited dates are unverified).
