The engine tracks two tracks: the friendly announcements (Gorbachev's 'Common European Home' in 1989, the 2003 'Common Spaces' summit, Putin's 2010 'Lisbon to Vladivostok' piece) versus what physically happened on the ground afterward.
How it works
The hard numbers show the split: EU imports from Russia fell about 90% by late 2025, Russian gas share dropped from ~45% to ~12-18%, the US now supplies most of Europe's LNG, NATO added an eastern battlegroup in Finland, Poland is building toward a 500,000-strong force, and the Nord Stream pipelines were blown up in September 2022.
Why it matters
It shows the words and the reality ran in opposite directions; the engine deliberately leaves open whether this breakup ends any hope of a future Europe-Russia union or is just one phase of a longer story.
