It supplied the expert testimony (Arthur Estabrook) behind the Buck v. Bell forced-sterilization case; it was founded in 1910 by Mary Williamson Harriman, taken over by the Carnegie Institution of Washington in 1918, folded into that institution's genetics department in 1921, and closed in December 1939 after a review called its work scientifically worthless.
Why it matters
The engine names it the documented US origin of the eugenics lineage that Operation Paperclip later laundered — and reads it as a structural recurrence, an institution, not a single hidden cabal. (Note: this Carnegie body is not the same as the Flexner-Report Carnegie node.)
