His own words on their children: 'Considering how protective the Tall White mothers were of their children … Doing so to The Teacher would be like expressing a death wish' (vol. IV, p. 250); 'He said he'd kill me if I ever scared their children again' (vol. I, p. 469); trying to bypass a Tall White mother 'would simply be a quick form of suicide' (vol. V).
