How it works
Carbon dating puts the calfskin pages at 1404-1438, with a traceable ownership chain from Emperor Rudolf II (who paid ~600 florins) down to Yale in 1969, and the old 'Roger Bacon wrote it' story is a debunked sales legend; on meaning the engine holds two rival readings open at once - (A) it encodes a real language (it obeys statistical laws of real writing, has distinct dialects and multiple scribes) versus (B) it is elaborate gibberish (unnaturally low randomness, rigid word positions, triple-repeated words) - and notes that convincing human-made nonsense can mimic nearly all its features while every claimed 'solution' has collapsed under review.
