Arthur Schopenhauer (1788-1860), a German philosopher.
In the engine he's used as a lens on the gap between what's really out there and what our minds present to us.
His book 'The World as Will and Representation' says the world only exists as something shown to a thinking mind, driven underneath by a blind, hungry force he called the Will; you escape it through art, self-denial, or compassion. The engine notes that technology, by doing our thinking for us, strips away the mind's own power to present the world.
It's a tool for thinking about the seam between raw reality and the version of reality announced to us, which matters when you ask how much of what we're told is real.
