Robert David Steele (ex-CIA, ex-Marine; d. 2021)

playerIntelligence & Surveillance · Media & Managed Opposition
A former CIA officer a viral post says created Q, the anonymous poster behind QAnon. He talked about ideas QAnon later took up months before Q appeared, but no record shows he wrote it.
Who they are

Robert David Steele, a former CIA officer and Marine Corps intelligence officer, who died of Covid-19 in 2021[1].

What they do

A viral post on X (formerly Twitter) in October 2026 called him an 'ex Navy Seal and CIA' and said he 'created Q anon with Steve Pieczenik', a former State Department official — meaning Q, the anonymous online poster behind QAnon, a far-right American conspiracy theory and political movement that began in 2017. News reports called Steele a QAnon supporter, and he was a frequent guest on InfoWars, the flagship radio show of Alex Jones.

How it works

He served as a Marine officer, did three CIA tours in Latin America, then helped set up the Marine Corps Intelligence Center. Later he founded an election-reform campaign called #UNRIG. In June 2017, four months before Q's first post, he talked on YouTube about 'adrenochrome' — part of a QAnon belief that elites extract a drug from children's blood. None of his own biographies say he was a Navy SEAL.

Why it matters

In 2023 two researchers in France compared Q's posts with the writing of 13 people suspected of being Q. The closest match was two other men, Paul Furber and Ron Watkins, who both deny writing as Q. Steele was not one of the 13, so that study neither ties him to Q nor clears him. Whether he had any hand in Q is still unanswered.

The engine's record — word for word
[Report #198] His US Army War College author bio (2010): 'ROBERT D. STEELE is a retired Marine Corps infantry and intelligence officer'; 'he resigned from the CIA to accept a Marine Corps invitation to be the senior civilian responsible for creating the Marine Corps Intelligence Center (today a Command)' (files.ethz.ch). IKS 2014 proceedings: 'officer, then served 3 tours in operations for the CIA in Latin' (iksconference.ro). Privacy PC: 'Steele is a former clandestine operations officer with the CIA.' (privacy-pc.com). SEAL. The post (4 Oct 2026): 'Robert David Steele ex Navy Seal and CIA'. His own bios list Marine Corps and CIA service only; no source says he was a SEAL, and none says outright he was not (Oct 2026). Held. Q. The post (4 Oct 2026): 'Robert David Steele ex Navy Seal and CIA created Q anon with Steve Pieczenik'. Columbia Journalism Review has him on YouTube to 'talk authoritatively into his camera about “adrenochrome” in June 2017' (cjr.org) — four months before Q's first post. Wikipedia on the belief: 'the belief that politicians and Hollywood elites engage in " adrenochrome harvesting", in which adrenalin is extracted from children's blood to produce the psychoactive drug adrenochrome.' (en.wikipedia.org). Yahoo (Stuti Mishra, 31 Aug 2021): 'Former CIA officer and QAnon supporter Robert David Steele, who previously called Covid-19 a hoax, died from the disease after being hospitalized with severely damaged lungs.' (yahoo.com) The FT and Heavy, per Wikipedia: 'The Financial Times and Heavy have speculated that VIPS, and in particular William Binney and Robert David Steele , may have been involved in recruiting the networks that became the QAnon pro-Trump conspiracy cult.' (en.wikipedia.org) The 2023 peer-reviewed writing study compared Q's posts with the writing of 13 named suspects; he was not one of them, so it neither links him to Q nor clears him. Authorship: not found, held open. SHOWS. His own appearances list: 'Steele, Robert, with Alex Jones, “ #UNRIG – Robert David Steele on the Alex Jones Show 6/29/17 – excerpts ,”' (robertdavidsteele.com); 'he champions election reform through his #UNRIG Election Reform website' (operationdisclosure1.blogspot.com).
