How it works
Artemis II flew a crewed lunar flyby in April 2026; NASA restructured in May 2026 and canceled the SLS upper stage; Artemis III became a 2027 low-Earth-orbit docking test of SpaceX's Starship and Blue Origin's lander, with the actual surface landing pushed to Artemis IV in late 2028, which depends on a repeated Starship refueling campaign (estimated 10-20 launches); and by August 2026 Northrop and the Canadian Space Agency were repurposing Gateway hardware for lunar South Pole base demos.
Why it matters
The engine's point is that the state's grand Moon program can't function without private companies' rockets — and it deliberately leaves open the deeper interpretation, tagging this as the 'structural recurrence' reading rather than a hidden master plan.
