The CIA/Defense response, Project PANDORA, studied unwitting embassy staff who suffered fatigue, memory loss and mood problems, while the State Department hid the bombardment from its own diplomats; a 1982 intelligence report documented Soviet work on remote behavioral influence; and the 'Reflexive Control' doctrine (from 1967) — feeding an enemy information that makes them defeat themselves — later powered the Internet Research Agency troll farm under Prigozhin, which pushed roughly 80,000 Facebook posts reaching tens of millions with both left-coded and right-coded content (Pizzagate, QAnon, BLM and more).
