How it works
Girard's chain runs: we want things because others want them (copycat desire); rivalry among equals breeds conflict; that conflict builds to a crisis; society resolves it by blaming and destroying a scapegoat; the Christian story exposes and breaks this scapegoat trick; and once exposed, violence has no built-in off-switch and trends toward all-out war. The engine says operators like Thiel, Vance, Yarvin, Andreessen, Hoffman and Altman strip out the moral-revelation part while keeping the machinery as an engineering blueprint.
Why it matters
The 'amputation' — using the mechanics of manipulation while cutting away the part that condemns scapegoating — is exactly the warning signal the engine is watching for.
