LITEMPO, launched in December 1958 under station chief Winston Scott, deeply penetrated the Mexican government and ran the surveillance that recorded Oswald's 1963 visits to the Soviet and Cuban embassies; the ~63,400-page 2025 release (about 63,400 pages under an executive order) also surfaced a 1961 memo that 47% of embassy political officers were secret CIA sources, a mail-intercept program watching Oswald (its often-cited 200,000-items-a-month figure unverified), Cuban-sugar sabotage, and an accidental leak of 400-plus former staffers' personal data.
Why it matters
It shows a dense classified environment clustered around the assassination, which the engine reads as suggestive closeness, not a documented murder mandate, and deliberately names no one at the top.
