DIA, 'Soviet and Czechoslovakian Parapsychology Research' (September 1975)
publicationIntelligence & Surveillance · Occult & Esoteric
The second half of the government's homework on mind powers, filed the same years it was paying for remote viewing.
Who they are
'Soviet and Czechoslovakian Parapsychology Research', September 1975, produced by the US Army's Medical Intelligence and Information Agency for the Defense Intelligence Agency. Reference DST-1810S-387-75. Co-credited to Louis F. Maire III and J. D. LaMothe. Declassified.
What they do
An assessment of what the Soviet Union and Czechoslovakia were getting out of parapsychology — claimed abilities like reading minds at a distance or moving objects without touching them — and what it would mean for the US if any of it worked.
How it works
It is the companion to the July 1972 report and refers back to it in its own text. Together those two documents are the entire evidence base for the December 1980 article in the Army's own journal that claimed the mind was the next battlefield.
Why it matters
This is the official, funded, cleared half of the 1970s picture: a year after the Stanford Research Institute's 1974 study, during the years the government was paying for remote-viewing experiments. The unofficial half turns up three years later as a self-published book by a man in Boston with no clearance and no publisher.
The engine's record — word for word
September 1975 US Defense Intelligence Agency report: 'Soviet and Czechoslovakian Parapsychology Research (U)', DST-1810S-387-75, prepared by the Army's Medical Intelligence and Information Agency; co-credited Louis F. Maire III + Maj. J. D. LaMothe (john_d_lamothe). Declassified; CIA reading-room copy CIA-RDP96-00792R000600350002-2.
Companion to ST-CS-01-169-72 (dia_controlled_offensive_behavior_1972) and refers back to it in its own text: 'In 1972, LaMothe reported...'. Together the two reports are the entire evidentiary footing of alexander_new_mental_battlefield_1980 (footnotes 2 + 3).
Position: one year after sri_changing_images_of_man_1974, concurrent with the funded remote-viewing work (stargate, hal_puthoff). Engine read: the cleared, institutional half of the 1970s consciousness-as-terrain file; the uncleared half arrives three years later as paulson_1978_psychic_warrior, with no publisher and no footnotes.
