A butcher's strange notebooks of secret 19th-century flying machines are almost certainly art and invention, not proof of a hidden aircraft society.
Who they are
Charles Dellschau (1830-1923), a German-born Texas butcher, and the 'Sonora Aero Club' mythos built from his notebooks.
What they do
The engine treats his work as an 'artifact-mythos' — an elaborate story most likely invented rather than documenting real events.
How it works
His roughly 12 notebooks of 2,500-plus watercolors were drawn in 1899-1922 (AFTER the 1896-97 airship wave) and rescued from a house clearance in the 1960s for $100. He claimed to have been a scribe for a secret Gold Rush flight club using a mystery lifting gas — which the engine notes was most plausibly ordinary ammonia, not anti-gravity. Crucially, the whole 'NYMZA' secret-society layer comes from Pete Navarro's decode of Dellschau's private cipher, and Navarro never released the key or a literal translation — even Navarro concluded Dellschau likely made it up.
Why it matters
Because the secret-society claims rest on an un-checkable, unfalsifiable cipher decode, the engine treats the simplest explanation — that this is a made-up story feeding a sci-fi feedback loop — as the front-runner.
The engine's record — word for word
[Report #156] Charles Dellschau (1830 Brandenburg -> Galveston 1850, butcher/saddlery, CSA vet, d. 1923) and his Sonora Aero Club artifact-mythos. CHRONOLOGY (load-bearing): his ~12 notebooks (2,500+ watercolors) were drawn 1899-1922 — ENTIRELY POST-DATING the 1896-97 wave; salvaged from a 1960s house-clearance by antiques dealer Fred Washington ($100). He CLAIMED to have been scribe (1854-59) for a secret Gold-Rush flight society flying 'Aeros' (Aero Mio/Trump/Schnabel/Mary; Adolf Goetz's Aero Goeit tangled in a Sequoia; Jacob Mischer down in flames in the Aero Gander; gypsy-wagon disguise) powered by 'NB Gas' discovered by Peter Mennis — most plausibly mundane AMMONIA (NH4Cl+NaOH -> NH3, lighter than air; 'NB'='NH'+1; the green 'suppe' colour unexplained), NOT anti-gravity. THE DECISIVE CAVEAT: the entire NYMZA secret-society apparatus — and the 'Tosh Wilson' name matched to the Apr-1897 San Antonio 'Hiram Wilson' report — descends from Pete Navarro's decode of Dellschau's private cipher, and NAVARRO NEVER RELEASED THE KEY OR A LITERAL TRANSLATION; the Tosh/Hiram link is Navarro's SPECULATION (Navarro himself concluded Dellschau likely invented it), and NYMZA sources SOLELY to Dellschau. So Poles A/D rest on an un-auditable, unfalsifiable foundation -> the template->artifact-mythos (sci_fi_feedback_loop, Pole B) is the front-runner. NB: NYMZA-as-pre-Nazi-German-breakaway-syndicate (Bosley) is the airship-era TWIN of the Jorjani 'Spider' (#155) — the same totalizing-cabal thesis. Held at apex; name no holder.
