How it works
CBAM puts a price on carbon-intensive products entering the EU. The European Parliament backed a WTO-compatible version in March 2021. The executive summary projects about €14.7 billion per year at €80 per tonne of CO₂e if trade flows don't change. GLOBAC-accredited verifiers decide whether emissions data is valid, though GLOBAC does not set CBAM standards and its accreditation is not mandatory. CBAM shares technical building blocks with the Digital Product Passport, but they are not currently connected or integrated.

It shows how a climate policy can also work as a border charge that raises large sums, with the size of the take calculated in advance.
