Idea
The belief that humanity is evolving spiritually toward something higher — joined to the belief that some people or groups are further along than others and should lead, be chosen, or be bred. It shows up again and again in movements that never met: Aristotle's law against raising deformed children, a 1602 utopia where priests time breeding by the stars, Theosophy's ranked root races, a Nazi-era occultist's Aryans bred by higher beings, an American fascist's race ladder, Julian Huxley's eugenics, Gerald Heard's leader caste, and Timothy Leary's genetic elites for space. In UFO lore, Theosophy's Masters became the Nordic Space Brothers. Some of the same circles held the two ideas apart — Aldous Huxley and Esalen's founders taught unlocking potential, not breeding.
