Idea
The mechanism by which a closed power arrangement buys moral credibility from an adjacent open, idealistic movement — for example, an AI company donating to open-source foundations while launching a closed consortium, so the open community's reputation supplies cover for the closed deal. The pattern is described as recurring for a century: industrial fortunes laundered through philanthropy, corporate capture laundered through 'stakeholder' language, capability-gating laundered through safety discourse.
