Idea
One of the Catholic Church's described survival mechanisms: because clergy have no heirs, wealth and authority stay inside the institution instead of leaking to family dynasties, and for over 1,200 years the system also absorbed surplus aristocratic sons and daughters, defusing elite competition. It is compared to other non-hereditary administrator systems in history, and noted to be under demographic stress now as Western recruitment plummets.
